ABOUT

Born in 1989 and resident in Berlin, Andreas Völk is a versatile musician and artist, whose creative expressions captivatingly blur the boundaries between improvised music and video art. His artistic endeavors are not confined to his solo project. He is also actively involved as a guitarist, singer, and producer in various bands such as 'Das Ende der Liebe' and 'Center for Mind and Brain'.

The works and projects of Andreas revolve around an intriguing question: 'Psychoacoustics - How do emotions arise through music?' This fundamental question drives him to explore the emotional dimensions of sound and continually inspires him to seek out uncharted territories.

In addition to his artistic pursuits, Andreas is engaged as a studio and label owner (Sauna Studio Berlin / Anunaki Tabla). His involvement spans across various artistic realms including successfully acting as a curator and organizer (Gaswerk Music Days Berlin). With all his capacities he contributes to enriching the artistic landscape and promoting innovative projects.

Andreas not only embodies the diversity of the contemporary music scene, but also the curiosity and inquisitive spirit of an artist constantly striving to explore new and creative horizons.

PROJECTS

Andreas Voelk

Andreas' solo works showcase a diverse range of expressions, shaped by his current interests. They can be acoustic or electronic, soft or loud, clear or chaotic - but always long and deep.

For the project 'Musikreise' Andreas embarked on a two-month journey across Europe with Annika Rath, exploring distinctive natural locations that offered captivating sounds. The goal was to determine whether these sites could be embraced as musical duet partners and utilised to create improvisational duets.

The result is an album titled 'Musikreise'. The record's tracks act as sonic descriptions, very much like a painting of music. Lengthy improvisations progressively incorporate the surroundings into the music. Accompanying videos for the music can be found here.

During the challenging times of the COVID-19 pandemic, 'Sie wär so gern ein Stern' took shape. Created largely with the Yamaha CZ-1000 retrosynthesizer, the music emerged as Andreas delved into exploring the synthesizer's characteristics.

Currently, Andreas is working on an album with Klaus Fischer's 'AUDIOS' (1978) – a rare digital pitch transposer featuring delay, sound sampling, and sequencer functions. Only 50 units of this effects processor exist worldwide. Stay tuned for the anticipated release in late 2024.

Das Ende der Liebe

Conceived as a counterproposal to our intricate relationship with time in the modern world, the music of 'Das Ende der Liebe’ addresses the tension between the ever-demanding pace of contemporary life and our subconscious yearning for moments of reflection and contemplation. Their pieces of music are deep sonic spaces that invite listeners to explore the nuances of time, reevaluate and transform their perception of it, and ultimately surrender to the band’s magically tempus-stretching aural supernovae.

Andreas Völk (Guitar, Voice, Live-Sampling, Effects), Laurenz Gemmer (Yamaha CP70, Ableton Live), Kenn Hartwig (Bass, Nintendo Gameboy) and Thomas Sauerborn (Drums, Synths) are vibrational sound alchemists who craft a new universe, ever-expanding, built from electronics, acoustics, psychedelics and groove since the year of the portal, 2014.

Dave Berlin

In collaboration with David Helm, the project 'Dave Berlin' emerged in 2018. It is characterized by rapid production phases during which tracks are written, recorded, mixed, mastered, and even its artworks designed, all within a week. This approach can be likened to speed chess: quick decisions must be made, and they impact the entire production process.

The music created through this methodology retains the charm of improvisation without giving up on the perks of a professional production.

And of course you can expect to consistently encounter elements of humor and Dadaism. Enjoy!

Quantenflug

Andreas composed 'Quantenflug' in the studio of Deutschland Funk for his first band 'Klonk' and has been accompanying concerts and bands since then.

Don't cry – enjoy it.

During live performances, this piece is usually extended to a 10-20 minute version.

Blue Cosmic

Zolkin

Blue Cosmic's song 'Zolkin' describes the Maya zodiac signs of the band members Dany Ahmad, Jonathan Fisher, Markus Daßau, and Andreas.

Quite trippy.

Three

The video was spontaneously created during a crazy night in Berlin at minus 10 degrees Celcius. Freezing cold, but it looks like a lot of fun. ;)

'Three' can be heard on the album 'LP1'. For a change Andreas sings on it and has tuned his guitar to C#-Minor Open. A great song from the Corona era developed with his studio colleagues Kenn Hartwig and Johannes Klingebiel.
